We are pleased to share an inspiring interview featuring Ms Deaky Wong, an HKU Engineering alumna whose career journey demonstrates how engineering knowledge and skills can create meaningful impact across different fields.

After completing her studies in logistics and supply chain management at HKU Engineering, Deaky began her career in aviation as a Student Air Traffic Control Officer at the Civil Aviation Department. She later worked at Cathay Pacific’s Engineering Department and also served as an Aviation Officer at the United Nations World Food Programme in Rome, where she helped coordinate humanitarian flights to deliver essential aid to vulnerable communities around the world.

Deaky’s story highlights the importance of seizing opportunities, gaining international exposure, and developing both technical and soft skills. Her experience also shows how an engineering education can open doors to diverse career paths, from aviation and aircraft maintenance to humanitarian work and system transformation.

She encourages students to make good use of final-year projects, internships, and exchange opportunities to explore different industries and broaden their horizons.
