The Department offers postgraduate reserarch programmes leading to the degrees of Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) with digital enterprise technology as a major focus, in areas including robitics and automation, logistics and supply chain management, systems analytics, healthcare, Industry 4.0, Cyber-physical Systems, smart transportation, reliability, etc.

Major Research Areas

Supply chain management:

Advanced manufacturing, logistics engineering, financial engineering, healthcare engineering, operations engineering, system analytics and human factors engineering.

 

Cyber-physical systems:

Robotics, systems automation, smart devices / auto ID, simulation and virtual reality and 3D printing.

Departmental Requirements

Candidates are required to make an oral presentation of their research proposal as part of the procedure for the confirmation of candidature. Each candidate is also required to give at least one research seminar before submission of thesis title.

Departmental PhD Courses

 

DASE7001 Research Seminar

The course aims to provide students with a thorough understanding and training of presentation skills.

The course aims achievew the following course objectives: 

  1. To give students an in-depth understanding of the philosophy and different theories of data and systems engineering.
  2. To introduce introduces different methodologies of data and systems engineering together with your applications in data engineering and analytics/robotics and automation/human-machine corporation.
  3. To develop students’ abilities to give academic presentation.

  • Attend at least 6 seminars in the field of Engineering and related subjects; in particular, at least 4 of the seminars should be within our own department.
  • Submit 6 seminar reports with the signatures of the supervisors and students.

Presentation

  • Each student is required to present a 15-20 minutes to introduce a piece of their work in the RPg Forum.
  • Students need to submit title and abstract (maximum 300 words) one month before the forum.

 

DASE7002 Advanced Industrial Engineering Technology

The course aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of those advance topics under the four research and development focuses. through the course, graduate students are expected to have a holistic view of the scope of these research focuses.

The Department offers scholarship exclusively for our qualifying Research postgraduate students, who achieved outstanding research outcomes during their studies in the Department of DASE. Eligibility and details of each scholarship vary from year to year and assessment/interviews may be required.
